Brittany Steele is the Program Development and Outreach Specialist at the A.D. Henderson/FAU High School in the Florida Atlantic University Lab School District. She has over 12 years of teaching and instructional coaching experience and has presented research at various international, national, and state conferences. She has a Master’s degree in K-12 Reading Education and a Specialist degree in K-12 Educational Leadership. In 2010, Ms. Steele was recognized as the Teacher of the Year for the Florida Atlantic University School District. She has over 5 years of experience in implementing electronic literacy devices within a K-12 school environment and recently implemented a school-wide initiative in which there is now a 1:1 e-reader device to student ratio. Her experience with fostering literacy engagement through the use of e-reader devices has empowered and motivated students to increase their literacy skills, with a particular emphasis on informational text. Additionally, she has witnessed the power that the use of e-readers can make on engaging reluctant readers and observing them flourish in their reading and overall academic achievement.
