Shelly Bembridge is a 21st century classroom educator at Bedford South School in Bedford, Nova Scotia. Shelly came to the education field from the business world 15 years ago and has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Accounting and Global Business Management as well as a Bachelor of Arts in International Development Studies. After deciding to switch careers after the birth of her first child 11 years ago, she has worked hard to infuse her classroom with meaningful technology by attending ongoing professional development in the fields of Science, Technology & Mathematics. She has been a regular attendee at the Florida Education & Technology Conference and has attended Carnegie Melon Institute of Robotics for training in Lego Robotics and NXT Robots. She has a Master of Education from MSVU with a concentration on Holistic Education. Shelly has experienced the benefits of early STEM exposure with her own two boys through their involvement in First Lego League TM and coaches her son's FLL Team from home, the ROBOmasters of Bedford, NS. The Robomasters received recognition at Acadia University for the second highest score for their Robot Performance at the Robotics Competition, First Place for their Teamwork, for their Innovative Solutions and Gracious Professionalism and were recently awarded the Halifax Regional Champs for 2015. Shelly has also been honored with the Coach of the Year Award from Acadia University. Shelly is a passionate lifelong learner who embraces technology and social media to engage her students and flatten the walls of her classroom.
